Iron Infusion

An iron infusion refers to a medical procedure where iron is administered directly into a person's bloodstream. At Labrador Park Medical, we offer iron infusions, when medically appropriate to an individual's specific circumstances.

Iron is an essential mineral that plays a vital role in the production of haemoglobin, a protein responsible for carrying oxygen to various tissues and organs. When iron levels are low, it can lead to anaemia, causing symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, and pale skin. Iron infusions are usually recommended when oral iron supplements are ineffective or not tolerated by the patient.

A GP desk with printed wording 'iron deficiency,' a medical mask, and a stethoscope, symbolising the importance of addressing iron deficiency through medical care and treatment, such as IV iron infusions.

During the procedure, a healthcare professional will administer iron solution intravenously, meaning it is delivered directly into a vein. The infusion may take several minutes to a few hours, depending upon the specific treatment protocol.
